Surprise Proposal at Muir Beach Overlook | Muir Beach

There was so much joy and excitement mixed in with the salt water air during Jessi and Philip’s surprise proposal at Muir Beach Overlook.

Jessi thought she was there for a couple’s session with Philip to update my style guide, but little did she know that Philip and I have been chatting back and forth to set up the perfect surprise proposal at Muir Beach Overlook!

It was the perfect fall day to have a session at the Muir Beach Overlook…

Everything from the dress and shoes that Jessi was going to wear, to what prompts I would say during the session was carefully planned out. It started as a couple’s anniversary session as Jessi and Philip danced and kissed on the trail. After a few minutes, we made our way down the trail to the Overlook, where Marie of Laurel and Vine carefully placed 6 baskets of pampas grass to set the scene for the surprise proposal at Muir Beach Overlook.

Hug liked you haven’t see each other in months…

Having been together for five years, I knew it would be a little challenge to make sure Jessi did not expect the surprise proposal from Philip. I advised the couple that I wanted to try a new prompt/pose on them, and asked them to turn away from each other. Jessi did just that, but Philip knew that was his cue to get ready. When asked, Jessi turned around to find Philip on one knee.

Celebration was in order at Muir Beach…

After the surprise proposal, we continued down to Muir Beach to pop some champagne and celebrate! The air was warm, and the sunset was like pink and peach cotton candy in the sky. Jessi and Philip concluded the proposal session dancing barefoot on the beach and kissing amongst the crashing waves.

Jessi and Philip – I am so thankful for you! I am so glad to have been able to capture this amazing chapter in your lives! The love you share is unwavering, and I am so excited to see what the future holds for you! I can’t wait for your engagement session and wedding!

Figuring out what to wear for your photos can be tricky.

STEP 1: Decide if you're doing nice casual or formal wear.

STEP 2: What season are you dressing for?

STEP 3: What color theme would make you happy when you see your photos?

Color Palette
Think earthy tones like browns, beiges, olive greens, rust, and maroon. Shades of blues are also wonderful for photos. To keep it simple and elegant, try sticking to one color family and varying the tones for texture and depth.

Fabrics and Textures
Natural fabrics like linen, cotton, and wool will not only photograph beautifully but will also keep you comfortable. You can also layer with cardigans or lightweight jackets in the same color family for added interest and texture.

Coordinating Without Matching
Rather than identical outfits, it would be great if everyone could coordinate within the same color palette. This way, each person’s unique style shines through while keeping a cohesive look. Try to keep away from being too "heavy" on darker colors. Break up the the dark and light outfits.
